Fireplaces can become stained, marked or dirty from ash and smoke staining and so we are regularly asked about what are the best ways to clean a fireplace. We have come up with the top three common problems we come across with customers and how you can overcome them.
How can I clean smoke stains on marble fireplaces?
Getting smoke stains out of marble fireplaces might seem like hard work however, what you need to do is firstly wet the stained area and this will mean that when the dirt is dissolved it will not be drawn into the marble. Then you should apply a cleaning solution which has been tested and specially formulated for use on marble. Work the stain and then rinse the marble off; using a dry and soft cloth dry the area and try and stay away from using acidic products as this will damage the marble.
How can I clean rust from cast iron fireplaces?
One of the most simple, yet highly effective ways of cleaning and eradicating rust from your cast iron fireplace is to actually use white vinegar. If you simply just remove it then it will return at a later stage. Apply the vinegar and rub it into the rust until it is removed and then buff the cast iron with steel wool or a very fine grade wire wheel and this should do the trick.
How do I clean the glass panels in my stove?
The easiest way to clean the glass panels in your stove is to use a glass cleaner which you can find within the cleaning section of many supermarkets. First though you should use a soft cloth and some water to remove any debris and be extremely careful that you do not scratch the glass as this can happen when dirt on the glass is scrubbed. Once the glass cleaner has been used ensure you buff the glass using a clean, dry and soft cloth.
